Description

This Chicken Smothered in White Wine Lemon Sauce is a luxurious yet simple dish featuring tender chicken breasts in a zesty, buttery sauce. Perfect for dinner parties or weeknight meals, this recipe is a burst of citrusy elegance.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:

    • In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
    • Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  • Cook the Chicken:

    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat.
    • Add the chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
    • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • Make the Sauce:

    • In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter.
    • Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
    • Pour in the white wine and chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to deglaze.
    • Stir in the lemon juice and zest, and let the sauce simmer for 3-4 minutes to reduce slightly.
    • If using, stir in the heavy cream for a richer sauce.
  • Combine and Serve:

    • Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over it.
    • Simmer for 2-3 minutes to heat the chicken through and blend the flavors.
    • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Pair this dish with pasta, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the wine with additional chicken broth and a splash of apple cider vinegar.
  • This recipe works well with chicken thighs if you prefer dark meat.
